Nothing Says Fall Like Pumpkins

This weekend was a quintessential New England fall weekend. It was beautiful outside...bright, sunny with a nice cool breeze in the air and beautiful fall leaves. Oliver was anticipating this weekend all week because he knew we were having a pumpkin carving party on Sunday. Every day during the week he asked..."is tomorrow Sunday?" Finally, the day came and I think it lived up to all his expectations. We started the afternoon off with some pumpkin crafting with Oliver's best buddies.

Then it was finally time for some actual pumpkin carving. We had a hoard of pumpkins so we had our work cut out for us. As some of you may know, Jennifer takes her pumpkin carving very seriously (ok, not too seriously, but she does love it) and Oliver also took his job of stenciling very seriously as well. I must say, he was quite thorough and I will have him stencil my pumpkin anytime.

Then after the pumpkins were carved the kids had some fun playing dress up. Good times at the Novoa house.

The happy kids!

The fruits of our labor. Great job Stacey, Gianna, Caroline, Shawn, Angie and Jennifer!

The official winner of our unofficial contest....The Alien. And yes, it was naturally green.

Heading into Fall with a Bang!

As we get closer to welcoming our newest addition we also welcome the start of fall. We've been quite a busy family these past few months...getting the house ready for Rowan, celebrating birthday's and baby showers, and also participating in just some fun activities. Here's a run down for you to enjoy.

To welcome September in, we attended the wedding of our dear friends Suzanne and Ari (also known as Auntie Q and Uncle Ari). It was a magical event and Oliver was privileged enough to be asked to be a part of the wedding party. He took his job very seriously and dressed appropriately for the part.

Oliver's had several milestones this fall. One was going to the dentist (yes, I know we were a little late in getting him to the dentist but we made sure he's been taking care of his teeth since he was under 2). Fortunately, he took to the dentist chair just as if he'd been going for years. He was a super patient!

Celebration dinner at Legal Seafood's where Oliver inhaled Lobster!

Oliver has also been enjoying taking a creative movement class where he gets to explore movement through dance. He's really enjoying it and we can't wait until the spring for the end of year performance.

Oliver continues to be a very lucky kid because he's gets to have two birthday parties; one in CT and one in MA. This year we hosted a playground superhero party for Oliver and all his friends in MA. It was a blast! Of course Oliver's superhero of choice was Darth Vader (not sure that really counts as a superhero but who am I to deny him?).

A few days later Oliver, Jennifer and I celebrated his actual birthday (which fell on a Monday this year) with a trip to the fishing pond where Ollie got to try out his new Spider Man fishing pole.

Oh, and I almost forgot, we also took him to the Rainforest Cafe for an intimate dinner with his Moms for his birthday (does that mean we celebrated his birthday 3 times....?)

Then we were off to CT for his second/third birthday celebration. Lots of friends and family attended and it was a beautiful event thanks to my Mom and Dad. Oliver's Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt from Michigan made a surprise appearance which really made Oliver happy!

The best surprise about Oliver's CT birthday party was that it was also a combined surprise baby shower! It was such a sweet gesture from my parents. Jennifer and I enjoyed every second of it. We got very generous gifts that I'm sure Rowan will enjoy for a long time.

As if all of this wasn't enough fun to make a grumpy man into Santa Claus, we were blessed to have yet another baby shower in MA thrown by our loving friend Shawn Straub (and Zoe too). It was a beautiful affair thrown at Rosa Mexicana. To put it into the only words I can find...It was awesome!!!

One might think that such a baby shower would be enough excitement for the weekend but not us. We raised the level by going to the circus with Grandma and Grandpa!!! I'm pretty sure everyone had an amazing time!

Some post-circus fun with Grandpa!

After all this fun, you might think it would be impossible to sit still for a doctor visit but at Oliver's 4 year annual check-up he demonstrated what a consummate patient should be like. He's developing so well and we couldn't be more proud that he's our son. While we were there he took the time to put into practice some of the skills he's been learning while watching Doc McStuffins. He also got his vision tested for the first time....he can see!

We close out this post with a few family portraits that we had taken by a professional photographer. This was something we had planned to do when Jennifer was pregnant with Oliver but due to his early arrival we never go the chance. We were determined not to be tricked a second time.

We can't wait to meet you Rowan!!!!!!
